On Monday 27th January, MTX were appointed by Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust to supply, install and commission a new standalone, Modular Porter’s Lodge.
This presents an exciting new opportunity for MTX as this is a new Client, Hospital site and Trust. The new building will be installed within an enclosed courtyard area at the Colchester Hospital site and is specifically designed to offer new changing and relaxation facilities for the Porters, along with providing additional office space for other hospital staff.
Initially, MTX competitively tendered the scheme based upon a preliminary design and specification completed by the Trust. Subsequently, due to budget pressures, MTX worked alongside both the Trust and the Trust’s representative The Daniel Connal Partnership, to value engineer the scheme, in order to work with their budget constraints. At this time, we also assisted with producing design information required to complete the foundation design for the scheme. MTX were adaptive in the design of the building in order to work with around the existing site conditions and services.
As it is positioned within a courtyard, this presents logistical challenges to MTX. Given our experience in this area however, we feel confident that the scheme will proceed without issue. Craneage of the building is set to take place during normal weekday hours, however as we are lifting over occupied space, MTX will position a foot traffic management team to protect all internal hospital personnel. In addition to this, MTX aim to complete 90% of the installation works associated with the scheme within the factory. This significantly reduces the time required on site and therefore risk to the Trust given the building’s location.
The building is due to be delivered w/c 3rd March with completion by the end of March.
