MTX wins place on £500m NHS decarbonisation framework
MTX has secured a place on a new £500m framework agreement to decarbonise public sector organisations, including the NHS. The framework is geared towards helping the NHS in its bid to become the world’s first net-zero national health service.
Work covered under the agreement includes internal and external wall insulation, ground source and air source heat pumps, electric heating solutions, photovoltaic systems, ventilation systems and lighting works as well as traditional works such as replacement of windows and doors, and solutions to tackle damp and mould in domestic properties.
MTX is dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable construction solutions that align with the NHS’s net zero goals. Inclusion in this framework will allow MTX to continue collaborating with healthcare providers to create energy-efficient, environmentally friendly facilities.
Major Surgical Hub at Oxford
A new Surgical Elective Centre incorporating seven new operating theatres is being built at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford to address waiting lists for elective procedures, and meet the demands of the expanding population in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
The 7,541m² five-storey surgical hub for Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust will connect to the theatre suites in the existing West Wing building at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The new, dedicated hybrid theatres are being designed to give the Trust a leading edge and enable it to offer the most up-to-date procedures in suitable facilities, and across multiple specialities.
The project also includes associated infrastructure, landscaping and parking.
Clacton Urgent Treatment Centre Upgrade
East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust has chosen MMC specialist MTX to upgrade facilities at Clacton Hospital with a new Urgent Treatment Centre.
The project is the latest phase in a multi-million pound upgrade to ensure patients receive an improved experience in terms of both physical access to healthcare and benefiting from a state-of-the-art clinical environment.
Parts of the existing Urgent Treatment Centre are being demolished to accommodate the two-storey extension housing the new UTC, which will include nine consulting/examination rooms, a dedicated isolation room, three triage rooms, eye and plaster rooms, and a dedicated mental health consulting room.
Milford Community Diagnostic Centre nears completion
A Community Diagnostic Centre designed to reduce waiting lists and ensure more rapid treatment for patients at Milford Community Hospital is nearing completion.
Groundworks required rerouting water and gas mains and the new facility has been constructed by MTX using 27 precisely engineered structural modules built offsite and craned into position.
The CDC includes two MRI scanners and a CT scanner, along with consulting rooms and offices. Once complete, this new CDC will deliver an extra 11,000 MRIs and 9,500 CT scans as part of a ‘one-stop-shop’ for Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, providing patients with all necessary tests and scans in one appointment.
New outpatient ward at Stepping Hill Hospital
A 64-bed outpatients department ward is being created at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport using offsite-manufactured structural steel units which have been craned onto the site.
While the modular units were manufactured, MTX undertook groundworks to prepare the site for their arrival. This capability to concurrently run various work streams is one of the key advantages of modern methods of construction enabling delivery of new facilities faster, greener, safer and more cost effectively than conventional building methods, without reduction in quality.
The new building will include two fully compliant adult inpatient wards, with four six-bed wards, and eight single-bed suites on each of the ground and first floors.
New Urology Unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital
A new Urology Unit is being constructed at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading by MTX. A total of 44 factory-manufactured structural steel units have been craned into position to create the 1400m² facility.
It will be used by the Urology, Surgical, and Outpatients teams to enhance urological care with a wide range of specialised areas, including six consult/exam rooms, an ultrasound scanner room, a large treatment room and dedicated spaces such as a chemo room, lithotripter room, and flexi lab.
MTX is managing construction activity to the highest safety and environmental standards to allow the hospital’s 24/7 operations to continue without disruption.
New £49 million diagnostic and imaging centre at Frimley Park Hospital
A £49 million diagnostic and imaging centre at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey is nearing completion.
MTX secured the design and build contract with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) through a two-part tender process, working with the Trust to provide pre-construction design services to RIBA stage four, then tendering for construction of the fully compliant building.
The facility includes a dedicated breast care diagnostic and outpatient unit, and an imaging centre with diagnostic imaging equipment, including three CT scanners, two MRI scanners and two gamma cameras. A total of 74 inpatient beds are provided across the three-storey building in single rooms and four-bed bays.
MTX chosen to build Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital
MTX has been chosen to deliver Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre, which will offer state-of-the-art facilities and include six new operating theatres.
The £41.5m two-storey development will build on Royal Surrey County Hospital’s world-class services in robotic and non-robotic surgery and enable an additional 7,000 patients to receive surgery every year. The investment in new facilities will help Royal Surrey respond to increasing demand for cancer surgery and bring down waiting lists for all elective (planned) surgical procedures.
MTX has a proven track record in supporting NHS Trusts in the delivery of vitally needed new facilities and are delighted to be partnering the Royal Surrey to create this exciting new Cancer and Surgical Centre.
New Urgent Treatment Centre at Cumberland Infirmary
MTX have been awarded the contract for a new urgent treatment centre at Cumberland Infirmary. The £12m centre is aimed at reducing pressure on the existing A&E department at the Carlisle facility.
It will provide 12 consultation rooms, waiting areas for children and adults, and appropriate rest and storage areas.
The project will open with works to divert the existing blue light route, with close liaison needed with the adjacent departments to maintaining ambulance and patient access to A&E at all times. It is set to complete in late 2025.
