Kings Lynn – A&E

MTX are currently on site at Queen Elizabeth hospital, Kings Lynn installing a modular extension to the existing A&E department.

MTX are working closely with our client QEH Kings Lynn NHS trust along with project manages Aecom.

The expansion of the A&E department will accommodate four new observation areas alongside four new treatment areas on the ground floor with office accommodation on the first floor. The expansion will improve patient experience and will help the trust to achieve the national target of seeing accident and emergency patients within four hours of arrival.

MTX received an official order for the project on the 15th November 2013 with a programmed completion date of 10th March 2014 making this project the quickest contract to completion project undertaken (14 weeks excluding Christmas holidays)

The location of the new extension is within an existing fully enclosed courtyard which provides it own challenges regarding foundation works and access to the working site. As part of our enabling works a scaffold staircase tower and crash deck scaffold system were installed to ensure we did not affect the daily running of the busy hospital’s live A&E department. All groundwork machinery, spoil and materials have been craned in and out of the courtyard utilising the crash deck path to maintain fully operation of the first floor ward areas and ground floor A&E department.

During the on site foundation works which were completed ahead of programme, we were carrying out the mechanical and electrical fit out works of the 16No modules within our factory. These works included electrical containment runs, ductwork and ductwork insulation, wet services pipework and fitted furniture installation.

The modules were installed over a weekend again to maintain a live hospital A&E department. Following the successful completion of all the modules over the weekend 18th / 19th January, our on site fit out works have now commenced with our completion date of the 10th March currently on programme.
