In Spring 2012 MTX were appointed by Laing O’Rourke to undertake the design and build of a new Modular Mortuary on a greenfield site at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. The building comprises a body storage and Post Mortem facility with ancillary staff and visitor areas, along with roof top plantroom and external plant deck.
MTX worked closely with LOR and Betsy Cadwallader NHS Trust to produce a detailed design for the project, carrying out structural calculations and designs for foundations and the building, as well as producing a full M&E scheme and developing layouts, internal and external finishes and integration of specialist Mortuary equipment. Due to the nature of off-site construction MTX were afforded the opportunity to commence both ground preparation works and building construction concurrently. This ensured that the building, which was already fitted out with internal partitions, primary electrical containment, 1st fix ductwork and external cladding, could be craned into position within days of the foundations and below ground drainage being completed.Following the installation of the building various fit out works have been completed including plant installation and provision of M&E services. Commissioning works and finishing trades are due to commence in late October with handover scheduled for mid December.
