MTX have been appointed as the principal contractor to provide Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital with an Interventional Radiology Unit (IRU); a department that provides an alternative to open surgery and uses radiological image guidance such as x-rays to provide diagnosis and treatment, offering a quicker recovery time.
This will provide a state of the art facility for patients in the East of England and once completed will be one of the leading centres for Interventional Radiology in the NHS.
Working for Octagon Healthcare Limited on behalf of Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust and alongside architectural partners IBI Group, consulting engineers DSSR and structural engineers Rossi Long, MTX have designed a fit for purpose 1450m² single storey roof top extension, which will be delivered and installed around a live busy hospital environment.
The IRU will be constructed using an offsite method and will comprise of 4 large treatment rooms with dedicated control rooms, 2no 7 bay recovery wards including side rooms, clean and dirty utilities, nurse bases, anaesthetic rooms, offices, staff rest rooms, pre-assessment bays, prep rooms, scrubs, toilets and a main reception with waiting area.
MTX will begin onsite towards the end of this month with enabling works and infrastructure, with a view to the project being complete from a construction perspective by Christmas 2019.
