Working for ProCure 21+ PSCP Balfour Beatty, MTX have recently completed the relocation of a pre-existing modular Children’s Out Patient Department at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

The department was originally installed by MTX in 2009, but due to a new scheme for the provision of a new main entrance to the hospital, it was required that the department was relocated to a new location on the site.It was key for the Trust that the unit was relocated and re-commissioned ready for use during the school holiday period when patient appointment demands were lower.

The department consisted of 17 modular units, mechanically linked together and had a separate brickwork cladding to the exterior.

The preparation of the units prior to relocating consisted of the removal of the brickwork cladding to the exterior, the isolation and disconnection of all mechanical and electrical services and the stripping back of internal and external finishes across each module bay joint.

Each unit was then lifted out of its current location by a 500 tonne mobile crane and positioned onto a shunter waggon. The unit was then driven to its new location and positioned onto new foundations by a 90 tonne mobile crane.

All services and finishes were than reconnected and commissioned ready for handover.

MTX successfully completed the project 2 days early, giving the Trust plenty of time to repopulate and prepare for the reopening.
