Contract to supply and install a temporary second hand mobile operating theatre suite at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales.
In March 2011 MTX were awarded the contract to supply and install a temporary second hand mobile operating theatre suite and 2 bed recovery bay for the Betsi Cadwaladr University Hospital Trust in North Wales.
The project commenced on site at Glan Clwyd Hospital at the end of April 2011 with a programmed delivery date of just 5 weeks later.
In order to fast track the project, the second hand mobile theatre unit was initially part refurbished off-site in a quality controlled factory environment. The part refurbished units, which comprised of 8 building modules, were then delivered and installed on site just two weeks later at which time the internal refurbishment works were able to commence.
The refurbishment works included the installation of new walls and ceilings throughout to provide a cleaner and more clinical finish in preparation for receiving the vinyl sheeting applied to all floors, walls and ceilings. In addition, the refurbishment project included the installation of new doors throughout and the design and installation of a link corridor to connect the new theatre to the existing building whilst also providing additional storage capacity.
As part of the refurbishment project, MTX were also contracted to re-commission an existing plant skid to serve the new theatre unit.
The new theatre unit installation was completed eight days ahead of schedule and handed over to the Client Trust on the 31st May 2011.
This project highlights the increasing value of temporary and permanent modular building solutions to provide cost effective solutions when faced with increased surgical demand.
